We offer specialist tracks within our AWS Security pathway:
AWS Cloud Security Engineer
You’ll cover a wide range of AWS services, including Compute, Storage, Networking, Databases and Multi-Region Solution Architecture. You’ll study management console and CLI, and learn how to perform business continuity and disaster recovery procedures, while identifying, classifying, and remediating incidents. Your training will cover a wide range of AWS security modules, helping you to develop an understanding of the Shared Security Model, strategies for mitigating security threats and using AWS security tools, amd how to design and implement disaster recovery controls and BCP processes.
Role and responsibilities
AWS Cloud Security Engineers are excellent communicators and critical thinkers, able to work cross-functionally to deliver solutions that protect the company’s data. The day-to-day responsibilities of an AWS Cloud Security Engineer can include:
- Taking high-level requirements from clients or project managers and creating solutions based on them
- Researching solutions and conducting cost analyses to understand if proposals are commercial viable
- Effectively using and deploying CloudFormation tools to fit the client requirements, using Infrastracture as code, SDK and TerraForm among others
AWS Cloud Security Engineers are compensated well for their specialist knowledge, skills, and experience, with some of the best salary packages on offer across AWS roles. In the US, AWS Cloud Security Engineers can expect to earn $117,988 to $170,000 per year, depending on experience.
With the sought-after skillset of an AWS Cloud Security Engineer, you could look to progress to the more senior AWS Cloud Security Architect role, which could in turn lead to high-paying senior roles, including Chief Information Security Officer.
Certifications available through this pathway
AWS Cloud Security Architect
You’ll cover a wide range of AWS services, including Compute, Storage, Networking, Databases, High Availability & Fault Tolerance, Regional-based, and Multi-Region Solution Architecture. The course will focus on building highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant, and costs-effective architectures in the cloud. You will also learn how to perform business continuity and disaster recovery procedures, and understand cloud migration strategies.
Your training will cover a wide range of AWS security modules, helping you to develop an understanding of the Shared Security Model, strategies for mitigating security threats and using AWS security tools, as well as designing and implementing disaster recovery controls and BCP processes.
Role and responsibilities
AWS Cloud Security Architects wear many hats. A broad knowledge of cloud technologies and AWS services is crucial, as their day-to-day tasks can range from:
- Big-picture future-scoping, designing a new security architecture and making purchasing decisions about future technology
- Implementing the solutions they’ve proposed, while keeping an eye on the long-term effects and potential issues that may arise years from now.
- Onboarding new applications on to their solutions
- Working closely with DevOps and DevSecOps Engineers, designing, implementing, and problem-solving the security architecture that they’ve proposed
AWS Cloud Security Architects are in high demand, with incredible salaries on offer once fully trained, certified, and with a couple of years of work experience under their belt. In the US, AWS Cloud Security Architects can expect to earn $162,500 per year in a junior role, rising to a whopping $210,000 in a senior position. Freelancers and contractors can expect to earn $165 per hour.
AWS Security Architect is a senior-level role within AWS. At this level, you could progress into a more executive role, such as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), or look to become a Director, VP, or Practice Leader.
