How Aarti became a 4x certified AWS Solutions Architect

Who is Aarti Verma?

Driven by an ambition to become a cloud specialist while also seeking better work-life balance as a working mother, Aarti joined Revolent in October 2021 to train as an AWS Solutions Architect.

Prior to this, Aarti was working as an Equipment Technician for one of UK’s leading providers of gas monitoring data.

So, what was her journey like? And where is she today? Find out in this case study.

"Although I was very happy in my job, I was looking for a role with more flexibility to help with childcare, as I was spending 2.5 hours every day commuting to work.

What’s more, cloud computing is the most transformative technology of today, changing organizations across the globe. I wanted to be a part of this change. So, when Revolent reached out to me, I thought why not give it a try?

Thanks to Revolent’s training program, I was able to pass the very advanced AWS Solution Architect exam in less than 3 months! That’s a long way to go, considering I didn’t even know what AWS stood for when I first started."

What did Aarti's AWS training look like?

Aarti joined us and immediately started training on our AWS Solutions Architect Careers Program, where she received:

Fully-funded training led by our AWS instructors, with >50% time spent on practical application and real-life projects to put her certification knowledge to practice

Regular check-ins

Regular meetings with Revolent’s Customer Success Team while on placement to identify areas for ongoing professional development

Consultancy and soft skills training

Consultancy skills training to help Aarti solve on-the-spot business challenges and further boost her knowledge around navigating within a global, fast-paced environment

Working on-site as an AWS Solutions Architect

Once trained, Aarti was deployed to work for one of the world’s leading professional services companies. She was able to apply her new AWS knowledge, further developing her cloud capabilities.

"Day to day, I’m required to write the Terraform modules, conduct module testing, and create technical documentation for the projects I’m involved with. I’ve also been mentoring other trainees in Git and Terraform which has been a wonderful and rewarding experience."

A particular project that enabled Aarti to learn a lot in a very short timeframe was creating a complex infrastructure on AWS that would generate accounts in just a few clicks.

"Working together with other Revols, we had to ensure that everything was automated and based on the major skill sets or tags such as Git, Terraform, and DevOps code pipelines. There was a lot of back and forth with the client to work out exactly what they wanted and how that could be implemented, and I really enjoyed that."
Another highlight for Aarti was going to Manchester with a group of other Revols from her cohort to represent her company at the Manchester Hackathon.
"When you’re learning something new, it’s easy to give up if you do it on your own. But when there are other people around you, everyone motivates each other. The cohort of Revols I was part of were super supportive of each other. We were always there for each other, even when we finished the training and went on to complete our client placement, working together on the same projects."

Setting Aarti up to succeed on-site

Cross-training into a new, in-demand technology such as AWS, is no easy feat. This is why Revolent provides crucial consultancy and soft skills training, alongside technical skills, enabling our Revols to make an impact upon commencing their first placement.

"Revolent was incredibly helpful not just during my initial three months of training, but beyond that too. When I first started training, I was on the path to becoming an AWS Solutions Architect. However, my client placement required a slightly different skill set.

I had to learn DevOps and Terraform, and Revolent supported me in that learning too, always asking me and the other Revols in my cohort what kind of training they can help us with or what mentorship opportunities they could offer.

What’s more, having certifications on different technologies opens up more opportunities for you as a cloud specialist, so this was definitely beneficial for my career."

What’s next for Aarti?

Two years after starting at Revolent, Aarti is a 4x certified AWS Solutions Architect who has recently converted to a permanent managerial role with the client.

"I'm incredibly excited about this new chapter and all the opportunities it will bring! I’d love to keep doing what I’m doing right now, but with more experience and a more developed skill set, learning more advanced certifications. I’d also love to be able to help other people get into this and make a career change, too."
