To give you an insight into life here at Revolent, each month we turn the spotlight on one of our team. They’ll tell you what it’s like working with the world’s leading cloud talent creator, including their journey with us. This month it’s a Revol from our very first Australian intake, Lyzinea Slade.
Tell us about yourself
I’m a Salesforce Consultant: I’m a certified Salesforce Administrator and a Marketing Cloud Email Specialist, and I’m very proud to be part of Revolent’s first Australian cohort that started in May 2020. I was born in South Africa, went to school and university in New Zealand, and now live in Melbourne, Australia. I am yet to meet anyone with the same name as me!
What’s been the highlight of your time working at Revolent so far?
Getting my certifications, working with all the amazing people at Revolent and those within the Salesforce ecosystem.
What IT experience did you have prior to joining our program?
Before joining Revolent I was an implementation manager at a digital asset management software company. My most exciting project was implementing our platform for a global hotel group. I had the opportunity to go to Bangkok for the initial scoping workshops and collaborate with an incredible team. The project was a great success and, of course being a hotel group, we had the most amazing assets to work with. I did always feel like going on holiday though, which was a bit distracting…
What drew you to Salesforce?
I started my career as a salesperson and I know first-hand that if Salesforce is used to its potential, it can make life so much easier. It takes away all the reporting and admin that sales staff hate doing. When the opportunity came up to work with what I consider to be the best software platform in the world, I grabbed it with both hands – and I haven’t looked back since!
Talk us through your certifications.
My first certification was the Administration Cert. I passed my exam on the 17th of June and was over the moon. I worked so hard for that cert and it was great to walk away with such a good result, my mentor Arooj was so supportive and helped me feel 100% prepared. My next cert was the Marketing Cloud Email Specialist – I want to specialise in Marketing Cloud so this was the first step. I’m not sure how I would have completed it without Mauricio, my mentor. He’s a trailblazer for Marketing Cloud at Revolent and shared all his knowledge and experience with me. I completed and passed my exam on 10 July after several weeks of intense self-study. Next I’ve got my eye on the Marketing Cloud Consulting cert!
What advice would you give to people getting Salesforce-certified right now?
Make the most of your mentors – they’ve done it before!
Certifications aside, how are you continuing to develop yourself professionally?
I’m trying to learn as much as I can about Marketing Cloud and its competitors. I have a few friends who work in marketing with other products, so I’m swapping pizza for free software lessons on those!
Any Salesforce tips/tricks you’d like to share
Make the most of the people around you. Everyone is there to help – you really do start to feel part of the Salesforce community.
What’s your ultimate career goal? And what’s your ultimate personal goal?
The aim is to be an in-demand contractor, working on Salesforce projects anywhere in the world.
What advice would you give to anyone considering a career in Salesforce?
Have a chat to a couple of people on the inside and get their perspective. Salesforce live by their values, so if they align with you, the chances are that you’ll enjoy working with them.
What’s the number one thing you’ve learned from Revolent so far?
How to successfully build meaningful relationships digitally. I started my journey right in the middle of Covid-19 and Revolent have done such a great job of bringing us all together and making us feel like a team, even though we can’t be in the same room.
In 15 words or less, why should other people like you join our program?
Revolent is a highly respected and connected team within the Salesforce ecosystem, you won’t regret it.
What do you do in your spare time? Any interesting hobbies?
I walk my dog, cook and watch too many TV shows at the moment. I enjoy playing and watching most sports and I love traveling – often for sporting events! My favourites so far have been watching the All Blacks play in Chicago, FC Barcelona at Camp Nou and touring Japan for the Rugby World Cup in 2019.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
Teleportation. Imagine if you could click your fingers and be anywhere in the world?
