Paid training and placement to become a Forward Deployed Engineer

Revolent’s Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) Careers Program is designed for experienced software, data, and engineering professionals who want to move into applied AI.

You’ll complete 6-8 weeks of intensive, hands-on cross-training before progressing onto a paid customer placement, where you’ll apply your new skills to real production AI challenges.

You do not need a deep AI or machine learning background to join. We build that layer on top of the production engineering experience you already have.

Embedded on-site with a world-leading AI lab’s team, still as a Revolent employee for up to two years.

Four in five Revols convert to their client’s team permanently. Strong performance is the path to a permanent role, a proven outcome, though not guaranteed for any individual.

The commitment, plainly:

Training starts with a two-week trial period. After that, if you leave during your placement period of up to two years, you repay the costs associated with the training you’ve received. Our Talent Acquisition team will discuss the details with you before you commit.

What does a Forward Deployed Engineer do?

Forward Deployed Engineers work directly with customers to turn AI ideas into production systems.

Their responsibilities typically include:

Running technical discovery to understand workflows, data, systems, and constraints

Building production AI applications, agents, retrieval systems, integrations, and supporting infrastructure

Creating evaluation frameworks and monitoring performance in live environments

Troubleshooting failures and improving reliability, security, and operational performance

Working with product and engineering teams to feed real-world learning back into future solutions

Intensive applied AI training

What do you need to join the program?

This pathway is designed for experienced, hands-on technology professionals rather than people starting their engineering careers.

You could be a strong fit if you have:

5+ years of production engineering experience

Experience shipping software, data solutions, or technical systems used in real environments.

Strong engineering fundamentals

Confidence working with technologies such as Python, Git, REST APIs, authentication patterns, and cloud platforms.

Delivery experience

Experience leading projects, workstreams, or technical initiatives rather than working only as an individual contributor.

Customer or stakeholder exposure

Experience communicating directly with customers, executives, product teams, or risk and compliance stakeholders.

Commercial awareness

An understanding of why solutions are being built, including scope, ROI, business cases, and change considerations.

No deep AI or machine learning specialization is required. We train the applied AI layer.

Career progression

Progression is fast by design.

As an FDE, strong performers become visible quickly. The work is high-stakes and highly valued and total compensation grows substantially with seniority, with equity a growing share at senior levels.

Indicative total compensation (US market, confirmed at offer): entry-level FDE from the low-to-mid six figures; senior/ staff levels considerably higher. Figures vary by market and are set out in your offer.

Do I need AI or ML experience?

No. If you can ship production software, we add the AI layer during the program.

Is the permanent role guaranteed?

No. Placement is part of the pathway and a permanent offer is the intended outcome based on your on-site performance, not a guarantee.

What's the commitment?

You will need to commit to the full training course plus up to two years of on-site placement. There is a two-week trial period so you can determine if the program is right for you. Your Talent Acquisition contact walks you through the exact terms before you commit.

Where is it based, and is there travel?

Placement is on-site with the customer’s team, and travel to customer sites is part of the role. Specifics are confirmed during the interview process.

Who we’re looking for

What happens after you complete the program?

Once you complete your initial training, you’ll progress onto a placement where you can build real-world Forward Deployed Engineering experience.

From there, you can:

Join the customer permanently

Strong performers may have the opportunity to convert into the customer’s team at the end of their placement.

Progress your FDE career

Build toward roles such as Senior or Principal Forward Deployed Engineer, AI Solution Architect, Applied AI Lead, or technical leadership positions.

Across Revolent’s wider Careers Programs, long-term conversion is a core outcome of the model, although permanent employment cannot be guaranteed for any individual.
