Become an AWS DevOps Specialist
You don’t need any prior experience with AWS to cross-train with us. Our two-year career program will equip you with the technical skills and consulting know-how you’ll need to start a fantastic new career as an AWS DevOps Specialist. It includes:
- An initial training course led by our AWS expert training team; you’ll earn your first AWS certification in just four weeks
- Funded AWS cloud certifications, and further support to earn extra certifications during your two years
- Hands-on labs to cover all core services of AWS and help you develop real-world experience
- Paid work experience as a DevOps Specialist with one or more of our global clients
- Access to our world-class Support and Development suite
We offer two AWS DevOps specialist tracks:
AWS DevOps Cloud Engineer
You’ll cover a wide range of AWS services, as well as Application Integration, Serverless Architecture, Deployment Strategies, and CI/CD pipeline to deploy applications. You’ll write code using AWS security best practices and undergo extensive consultancy training so that you’re ready to present your solutions to clients with confidence.
Role and responsibilities
Effective communicators, AWS DevOps Cloud Engineers have a cross-disciplinary skillset. They:
- Have extensive knowledge of AWS services and best practices
- Are familiar with various automation tools
- Are equipped with strong programming skills, expertise in networking, security, and software reliability engineering
- Have a thorough understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Can provide continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) with high software quality
- Have a strong understanding of containers and container tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, and Amazon EKS
AWS DevOps Cloud Engineers are compensated well for their knowledge, skills, and experience, with some of the best salary packages on offer in the entire AWS community. In the US, AWS DevOps Cloud Engineers can expect to earn $140,000 to $192,000, depending on experience. Freelancers and contractors can expect to earn an average of $165 per hour.
DevOps is a ‘hot’ area of the cloud right now, and there are some fantastic career progression routes open for qualified AWS DevOps Engineers who have work experience under their belt. These include progressing as an engineer and becoming Senior DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer, leading to Lead DevOps Engineer/Principal Engineer. Or specializing as a DevOps Architect and, later, as a Solutions Architect.
Certifications available through this pathway
AWS DevSecOps Engineer
You’ll cover a wide range of AWS services, as well as Application Integration, Serverless Architecture, Deployment Strategies, and CI/CD pipeline to deploy applications. You’ll study a wide range of AWS security modules and strategies for mitigating security threats using AWS security tools and services. You’ll write code, using AWS security best practices, and design and implement disaster recovery controls and BCP processes.
Role and responsibilities
- How security is affected at every stage of the development process
- How this will impact the finished service or product
- The importance of teamwork and excellent communication skills
- How to write code following AWS best security practices
- How to utilize Docker and Kubernetes
Considering it’s a relatively new addition to AWS, DevSecOps specialists are certainly in high demand and growing! With industry certifications and a couple of years of work experience under their belt, AWS DevSecOps professionals can expect to command an annual salary of $120,000-$175,000 in the US, depending on their level of experience.
Though not yet as widely adopted as standard DevOps practices, demand for DevSecOps professionals is exploding; according to recent research, the DevSecOps Market is on track to be worth $30m in the US alone by 2028. As more DevSecOps roles are created, those with the right skills can find themselves in a highly lucrative position, with great career progression opportunities, including Senior AWS Dev SecOps Engineer or AWS Cloud Security Architect.

We’ll support you throughout your time with us, and beyond. You’ll have an assigned Development Coach who will guide you as you navigate your new career in the cloud. Whilst you’re working on a client site, we’ll conduct regular check-in sessions to make sure you’re fully supported. We’ll also help you gain extra certifications, as and when needed. Application criteria for this program:
We’re looking for experienced, highly motivated tech professionals with at least some of the following skills and knowledge:
- Development background or previous experience as a developer, with command of at least one high-level programming language (such as Python, Node js or Java)
- Process automation, design, development, deployment
- Experience of working in a SysOps Role
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for learning
To apply for the AWS Dev SecOps Engineer track, you’ll also need to have some experience with the following:
- Security design implementation
- Infrastructure security or application layer security
