How Michael Connelly went from zero experience with Salesforce to a full-time career as a certified Salesforce Developer with cross-training

Meet Michael Connelly

After graduating from the University of Delaware with a degree in Management Information Systems, Michael joined Revolent in 2019.
Michael undertook extensive Salesforce training and earned several Salesforce certifications before being placed with a variety of clients to build his on-the-job experience.

I chose to train in Salesforce because I was impressed with the large ecosystem and job opportunities in this field. While I had no previous experience with Salesforce products, I saw it as a promising platform with sognificant potential for career growth.

Working with several clients over a three-year period, Michael landed a placement with a multinational information technology services and consulting company, where he worked for 18 months.

Here, he was so successful in his placement as a Salesforce Developer that he was hired as a full-time employee in September 2022.

Meet Michael Connelly

What did Michael’s training look like?

Michael joined Revolent and immediately started training on our Salesforce Careers Program, where he received:

Paid training

Led by our Salesforce-certified instructors, with >50% of time spent on practical application and real-life projects to put his certification knowledge into practice

Consultancy and soft skills training

Consultancy skills training to help him solve on-the-spot business challenges and to further grow knowledge around navigating within a global, fast-paced environment

Regular check-ins

Regular meetings with Revolent’s Customer Success Team while on placement to identify areas for ongoing professional development

Michael also gained the following professional certifications:

Revolent’s program started with training in Admin and Platform Developer I certifications, which gave me a solid foundation in the basics of Salesforce. I then gained hands-on experience through the Revols for Good program, working on real-world projects for non-profit organizations. I also earned two more Salesforce certifications which further helped me to develop my skills and demonstrate my knowledge to potential employers.

Working on-site

As a Salesforce Developer working on-site, Michael’s day-today role involves gathering requirements from business users, designing solutions to meet those requirements, and coordinating testing sessions with end-users.

In my role as a Salesforce Developer, I’ve made a positive impact by working directly with clients and have received great feedback as a result of my training.

Michael has the opportunity to apply both his technical knowledge and the consultancy skills he mastered during his training with Revolent. He works closely with his peers in the development team and with stakeholders across his organization, to ensure that all solutions align with the needs of the business.

I’ve been able to effectively communicate with clients and understand their needs to create solutions that meet their requirements. Through my training with Revolent, I’ve gained the technical skills and knowledge needed to build customized solutions that meet the needs of the business.

Working on-site

Such support, as well as the chance to meet and get to know other burgeoning Salesforce professionals, has proved a vital foundation for Michael as he takes his first steps into a new career.

The opportunity to connect with peers in similar roles has been a valuable resource, allowing me to learn from others’ experiences and build a supportive network of professionals. Revolent also provided digital resources and study materials that helped me pursue additional Salesforce certifications, enabling me to continue growing my skills and knowledge even after completing the initial training program. This ongoing support has played a key role in my continued growth and success as a Salesforce Developer.

What’s next on Michael's Salesforce career path?

Now a full-time Salesforce Developer with a multinational information technology services and consulting company, Michael has rapidly risen through the ranks.

Since working at my placement organization, I’ve made significant progress. I started as a Junior Developer and quickly progressed to a Senior Developer as my technical abilities grew. This progression was due to the valuable training and experience I gained through Revolent, which equipped me with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a fast-paced development environment.

He now has his sights set on becoming a tech lead, overseeing his own team of Salesforce Developers. Eventually, he plans to build on his technical knowledge and drive to create bespoke solutions for clients by becoming a Salesforce Architect.

I’m passionate about working closely with clients to understand their business requirements, nd design solutions that leverage the full capabilities of Salesforce. I’m also committed to developing my communication and collaboration skills, as I believe that these skills will be essential for working effectively with clients and other stakeholders.
