Creative ways to find quality MuleSoft talent

Need high-quality MuleSoft talent, but struggling to find it? We’ve put together 5 creative ways that any organization can use to source skilled MuleSoft professionals – without breaking the bank!

The tech skills gap is nothing new – for every transformative cloud solution on offer in the marketplace, there is an almost guaranteed shortage of skilled professionals who can implement it properly.

In the Salesforce ecosystem alone, the demand for skilled professionals is so high that IDC predicts 9 million new jobs will need to be filled by 2026. And, while the good news is that this will create a predicted $1.6 trillion in new business revenue, that’s only if those roles actually get filled.

And in a time when the skills gap is at a 15-year-high, according to Manpower Group’s Talent Shortage and Employment Outlook survey, there’s no guarantee that these cloud technology roles will be filled in time.

How to overcome the skills gap and find quality MuleSoft talent

While large, well-established businesses can utilize “hire to train”, as a cost-effective option with a high success rate, it uses up one vital resource that businesses facing a talent-shortage don’t have – time. So, for those that don’t, here are five creative strategies to adopt in your search for high-quality MuleSoft talent.

MuleSoft talent attraction strategy #1:
Embrace the work from anywhere world

A lot has been said about this, but we can’t overemphasize how crucial a hybrid working policy could be. Put simply, as you look to attract and retain the best cloud talent, the ability for potential employees to work outside of the typical 9-5 race, could be a huge draw.

According to the Mason Frank Career and Hiring Guide 49% of people working in Salesforce ecosystems, like MuleSoft, already work from home – either full or part time. And Mason Frank themselves have stated that “[we’ve] seen a significant increase in the number of candidates we’ve placed who’ll be working fully remotely going forward.”

While certain business models require that employees work from an office, if possible, we recommend opening roles up to the global pool of remote workers.

If you don’t already have hybrid or remote working policies in place, this will require an organizational shift towards the practice. But the pros of doing this far outweigh the cons; once a remote working strategy is implemented, it will provide access to talent across the globe – offering a better bank of candidates to rely on and a lot more hiring options when it comes to finding MuleSoft talent.

MuleSoft talent attraction strategy #2:
Diversify your hiring pool

Beyond the moral imperative to give everyone an equal chance at opportunities, there is a strong case for making diversity a priority, in regards to sourcing quality cloud talent.

According to McKinsey’s Diversity Wins report; more diverse companies consistently outperform their less diverse peers; gender diverse boards are 25% more likely to be profitable than non-gender diverse boards,  and companies in the top quartile for minority ethnic diversity outperform those in the lower quartile by 36%.

Few organizations realize that diversity can genuinely be an answer to the struggle for sourcing quality MuleSoft talent.

If you’re only using traditional hiring methods such as staffing firms, job ads, or internal recruitment drives, you’re missing out on a wide spectrum of candidates that come from other, less typical, routes.

Cross-training diverse talent can be a highly effective way to fill core roles and shrink skills gaps within your organization. Through our adoption of this strategy, we’ve been able to create multiple diverse talent pipelines for a range of cloud ecosystems – 63% of our Developers are from a Black, Asian, or Ethnic Minority background and a third are female.

MuleSoft talent attraction strategy #3:
Kickstart referral programs

Referral programs can be incredibly useful for getting new employees through the door. Take for example a referral jam. They’re a fast, interactive, and effective way to showcase your organization’s vacancies by leveraging the combined reach of your existing employees.

Basically, employees have 30 minutes to reach out through their networks and showcase vacancies, to have a chance of winning prizes, which can include gift vouchers, referral bonuses, and donations to charities.

Employees sign up to the referral jam using their email address and get a reminder 30 minutes before it starts. Once the Referral Jam starts, they have up to 30 minutes to collect points by referring contacts and sharing job openings.

Check out this handy guide on How to Run a Referral Jam if you’re interested in trying it in your organization.

MuleSoft talent attraction strategy #4:
Explore local networking and events

While the first point focused on leveraging the new “work from anywhere” world, you shouldn’t forget the power of local networking and events. One of the best ways to find quality MuleSoft talent (especially during a skills drought) is to dive into local interest group and meetups.

MuleSoft and Salesforce user meets are fairly common and are starting to take place in person again.

One of the simplest ways to leverage this is to offer your office as a space for meetups or events that are relevant to your hiring drive and provide refreshments – it’s a cost effective way to get involved.

Some meetups or user groups will even let you sponsor them. While it may seem a bit “old-hat”, hosting meetings for interest groups that are relevant to your hiring drive can be surprisingly effective.

MuleSoft talent attraction strategy #5:
Sync up with talent creation experts

A lack of cloud professionals can be hugely detrimental to any organization seeking digital transformation through technologies such as MuleSoft, AWS, and Microsoft.

If you need talent fast, external solutions can be a huge boon, saving time, money, and internal resources. And what better place to start than a cloud talent creation company that is directly partnering with MuleSoft themselves – Revolent!
